Synthesis, characterization and slow release properties of O-naphthylacetyl chitosan

► O-naphthylacetyl chitosan (NA-chitosan) was synthesized. ► The solubility of NA-chitosan was improved significantly. ► NA-chitosan has both naphthylacetyl and amino groups in the main chain. ► NA-chitosan has excellent slow release properties of NAA.
