Synthesis of diamine maleyl chitosans, and in vitro transfection studies

► We synthesized three novel diamine-modified chitosan derivatives. ► We studied the gene transfection ability of these chitosan derivatives. ► These chitosan derivatives presented relatively lower cytotoxicity and much higher transfection efficiencies. ► The novel chitosan derivatives may be used as a new non-viral gene delivery vector.
