Preparation and evaluation of warfarin-β-cyclodextrin loaded chitosan nanoparticles for transdermal delivery

► β-Cyclodextrin enhanced warfarin solubility (solubilizing power; 1.39 × 10−3 mM). ► Warfarin-β-cyclodextrin complex was well incorporated into chitosan nanoparticles. ► Chitosan nanoparticles were found to be spherical with narrow size distribution. ► Release of complex from carrier showed an initial burst then a slow constant phase. ► Chitosan/cyclodextrin carrier offered controlled permeation of warfarin ex vivo.
