Preparation, characterization and cytocompatibility of polyurethane/cellulose based liquid crystal composite membranes

► Two types of PU/LC composite membranes with various LC ratios were prepared. ► Surface properties and phase separation varied with the type and ratios of LC. ► Cells presented favorable growth when the content of LC was larger than 30%. ► PU/OPC composite membranes showed better cytocompatibility than PU/PPC.
