Ulvan and ulvan/chitosan polyelectrolyte nanofibrous membranes as a potential substrate material for the cultivation of osteoblasts

► Complex ulvan/chitosan polyelectrolyte membranes were synthesised and characterised by ATR-FTIR and SEM. ► The ulvan/chitosan membranes possess a fibrous and nanofibrous morphology in a supramolecular self assembly. ► Cytocompatibility of ulvan and ulvan/chitosan membranes was proved by the attachment and proliferation of 7F2 osteoblasts.
