Characterization of 17-4 PH stainless steel foam for biomedical applications in simulated body fluid and artificial saliva environments

► 17-4 PH steel foams for implant applications were produced by space holder method. ► Metals released from steel foams were investigated in the SBF and artificial saliva. ► Weight loss from steel foams was also investigated in the SBF and artificial saliva. ► Metal release was not higher than reference levels in human body. ► Pore properties and mechanical properties were similar to human cancellous bone.
