The effect of temperature and strain rate on the periodic cracking of amorphous AlxOy films on Cu

► Increasing both temperature and strain rate increases the crack spacing. ► Strain rate has a greater effect than temperature in the range investigated. ► Interfacial sliding at high temperature and low strain rate was not found. ► Absence of sliding is linked to higher interfacial roughness than reported previously.
