Nanoindentation study of the mechanical and damage behaviour of suspension plasma sprayed TiO2 coatings

► We analyze the mechanical properties of SPS sprayed TiO2 coatings. ► The nanoindentation technique acquired the hardness and modulus of single phases. ► Nanoscratch experiments served to study the damage resistance. ► Results revealed that rutile grains decrease the damage resistance.
