► Premature newborn on parenteral nutrition (PN) are under oxidative stress. ► Premature newborn on PN have low antioxidant glutathione (GSH). ► PN is contaminated with peroxides. ► In newborn animals, PN and H2O2 inhibit the formation of substrate for GSH synthesis.
