Binding of peptides corresponding to the carboxy-terminal region of human-β-defensins-1-3 with model membranes investigated by isothermal titration calorimetry

► Binding of peptides to model membranes was investigated by ITC. ► Binding of peptides to lipid vesicles was analyzed at 37 °C. ► Binding to zwitterionic membranes is not explained by Gouy-Chapman theory. ► Binding to negatively charged model membranes does not result in pore formation. ► Membrane destabilization may affect functioning of cytoplasmic membrane proteins.
