Granulocyte maturation determines ability to release chromatin NETs and loss of DNA damage response; these properties are absent in immature AML granulocytes

► Stem cells with BCR/ABL mutation can differentiate ex vivo to mature granulocytes. ► Mature granulocytes neither repair DNA damage nor express DNA repair proteins. ► Granulocytes of AML patients remain immature and keep active DNA repair. ► Immature granulocytes lose the capacity to release chromatin into extracellular space. ► Incomplete chromatin condensation could serve to monitor therapy and functionality.
