► This short survey concerns phospholipid-based molecular self-assemblies in which at least one component is highly fluorinated. ► It intends to show how F-chains can profoundly modify properties and behavior of phospholipids in assemblies. ► Of particular significance is the powerful capacity for F-chains and F-components to promote self-assembly.
