Tributyltin-driven enhancement of the DCCD insensitive Mg-ATPase activity in mussel digestive gland mitochondria

► Tributyltin (TBT) desensitizes mussel mitochondrial Mg-ATPase to FO inhibitors. ► The mechanisms of the enzyme desensitization to DCCD and oligomycin are different. ► The desensitization to DCCD is temperature dependent and independent of thiols. ► Incorporated TBT could destabilize DCCD binding to the enzyme structure.
