Patulin induces colorectal cancer cells apoptosis through EGR-1 dependent ATF3 up-regulation

► We exploited a new function of mycotoxin, patulin, in colorectal cancer cells. ► Patulin induced both EGR-1 phosphorylation and ATF3 accumulation in the cells. ► Patulin effect is associated with G1/S accumulation and apoptosis. ► Collectively, patulin could be a candidate for the treatment of colorectal cancers.
