Packing in molten globules and native states

► Wet molten globules (MGs) have decreased packing relative to the native state. ► Dry MGs have native-like structure but are expanded and have dry interiors. ► Extent and nature of packing in dry MGs remain to be elucidated. ► Packing defects in native proteins can have functional relevance. ► Packing can also be studied by mutagenesis, deep sequencing and surface display.
