► Schistocerca gregaria displays a highly sensitive and robust systemic RNAi-response. ► The reproductive organs display less potent knockdown effects. ► The ovaries contain lower sg-dicer-2 transcript levels then other tissues. ► The male reproductive organs contain lower sg-argonaute-2 transcript levels then other tissues. ► Silencing sg-dicer-2 or sg-argonaute-2 results in reduced RNAi-potency.
