► Axon reflex response to local heating is altered in the supramedial malleolar skin with advanced age. ► The blockade of sensory nerves in the supramedial malleolar skin altered the initial peak and the late plateau. ► Sodium nitroprusside iontophoresis corrected for skin resistance did not differ between older and younger subjects.
