⺠We report the first experience with EPI-743, a novel redox drug, in treating mitochondrial disease. ⺠EPI-743 appears to be effective in altering the natural history of mitochondrial disease. ⺠Mitochondrial patients showed improvement in quality-of-life. ⺠Brain HMPAO SPECT scan results correlated with response to EPI-743 treatment ⺠Prospective controlled trials will be undertaken to substantiate these initial promising observations
