Hypotensive and vasorelaxing effects of the new NO-donor [Ru(terpy)(bdq)NO+]3+ in spontaneously hypertensive rats

► The nitrosyl ruthenium complex [Ru(terpy)(bdq)NO+]3+ (TERPY) is a NO donor. ► The hypotensive effect of TERPY was slow and long lasting. ► The hypotensive response evoked by TERPY did not lead to reflex tachycardia. ► The relaxation induced by TERPY is similar in Wistar and SHR aortic rings. ► TERPY releases similar amounts of NO in Wistar and SHR aorta.
