Antidepressant and anxiolytic effects of amentoflavone isolated from Cnestis ferruginea in mice

► Cnestis ferruginea extract and its constituent ► Amentoflavone reduced time of immobility in forced swim and tail suspension test. ► Amentoflavone increased number of head-dips and time spent in open arms. ► Extract devoid of neurological deficit ► Anti-immobility effect of amentoflavone was reversed by 5-HT2, α1- and α2-adrenoceptors antagonist pretreatment. ► Anxiolytic effect of amentoflavone was reversed by flumazenil pretreatment.
