Inhibition of SNL-induced upregulation of CGRP and NPY in the spinal cord and dorsal root ganglia by the 5-HT2A receptor antagonist ketanserin in rats

► L5 spinal nerve ligation increased CGRP-IR in laminae I-II of the spinal cord. ► SNL increased NPY-IR in the spinal cord. ► SNL induced expression of NPY-IR in dorsal root ganglion neurons only at L5. ► Subcutaneous ketanserin reversed evoked upregulation of CGRP and NPY. ► Maladaptive changes in CGRP and NPY mediated bioactivity of 5-HT/5-HT2A receptors in neuropathic pain.
