► Adolescent HAD males consumed the most ethanol of all age and gender groups. ► Adolescent HAD males had the most well defined binges of all age and gender groups. ► Adolescent male and female HAD rats differed in ethanol drinking and licking behavior. ► Adult male and female HAD-1 rats did not differ in ethanol consumption levels. ► Adult male and female HAD-2 rats differed slightly in ethanol consumption levels.
