Regucalcin (RGN/SMP30) alters agonist- and thapsigargin-induced cytosolic [Ca2+] transients in cells by increasing SERCA Ca2+ATPase levels

► Regucalin (RGN) or senescence marker protein 30 is involved in Ca2+ homeostasis. ► RGN expression alters agonist and thapsigargin induced Ca2+ mobilization in cells. ► RGN also increases the expression of SERCA Ca2+ pumps by increasing transcription. ► Decrease in RGN may contribute to age-dependent dys-regulation of Ca2+ homeostasis.
