An in vitro urinary tract catheter system to investigate biofilm development in catheter-associated urinary tract infections

► Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) are an underestimated problem. ► A cultivation system which mimics the conditions in a CAUTI was developed. ► The biofilm growth of 3 clinical Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates was determined. ► Strain specific parameters to characterize biofilms could be identified.
