Development of 3D architecture of uropathogenic Proteus mirabilis batch culture biofilms-A quantitative confocal microscopy approach

► We studied 3D architecture of batch culture P. mirabilis biofilms. ► P. mirabilis biofilms were grown on glass coverslips for seven days in LB broth. ► 3D reconstruction and morpho-topological key descriptors revealed a 5 stage process. ► Swarmer cells did not play a role in P. mirabilis biofilm formation in LB broth. ► Bottom up morpho-topological approach suited for future studies of biofilm architecture.
