Teneurin protein family: An emerging role in human tumorigenesis and drug resistance

► We performed an in-depth literature and data search on reported expression of teneurins in human tumors. ► Aberrant expression of teneurin-2 and -4 transcripts was found in various cancer types. ► Current data point to the involvement of some teneurins in cancer-related cell signaling pathways. ► Teneurin-2 overexpression could be associated with resistance to cytotoxic treatment. ► Protein-based evidence suggests the existence of secreted teneurin domains that might be detected in human body fluids.
