Possible involvement of galectin-3 in microglial activation in the hippocampus with trimethyltin treatment

► Trimethyltin (TMT) produces memory deficits and temporal lobe seizures. ► TMT treatment acutely increased Gal-3 expression in the hippocampal DG in mice. ► Gal-3 was detected in activated microglia and astrocyte following TMT treatment. ► Gal-3 was co-localized with COX-2 and iNOS in the hippocampal DG. ► Gal-3 may be involved in the inflammatory response in TMT-induced brain injury.
