► Recent reports suggest that brain-specific miRs are involved in neuronal functions. ► Change in expression and/or function of miRs is putatively involved in various brain diseases. ► BDNF is also important for many aspects of neuronal function. ► We reviewed current findings on the relationship between miRs and BDNF functions.
