Given its excellent cleaning ability, environment amity, low toxicity, etc., 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4-heptafluorocyclopentane (F7A) has been recommended as a new generation of cleaning agent with great application potential. In this paper, the atmospheric degradation of F7A initiated by reacting with OH radical is studied both in theory and experiment. The experimental rate constants of F7A with OH are tested to be 6.26â¯Ãâ¯10â13exp (â954/T) within the temperature range of 303-310â¯K and the atmospheric lifetime of F7A at 272â¯K is extrapolated to be 1.69 years. These values show reasonable consistence with the theoretical ones. After that, two possible degradation pathways leading to three main products are given by Gaussian 09. Take the theoretical pathways and the subsequent products analysis into consideration, a model for F7A degradation in atmosphere is built. The short lifetime of F7A and its degradation products contribute F7A an environmentally friendly agent for practical applications.
