Very small superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles: Long-term fate and metabolic processing in atherosclerotic mice

This manuscript presents a comprehensive investigation of the biotransformation of citrate-coated very small superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles in atherosclerotic mice, combining magnetic particle spectroscopy and ultrastructural analysis of the in vivo degradation process with corresponding in vitro experiments to investigate molecular aspects of cellular particle processing.228
