The influence of substituent effects on spectroscopic properties examined on benzylidene aniline-type imines

► N-benzylideneaniline-type imines were characterised by UV-vis, ATR-IR, and Raman spectroscopy. ► Effect of substituents on the UV-vis spectra is discussed. ► Influence of the torsion angle between the aryl groups on the UV-vis spectra is shown. ► Solvatochromatism and tautomerism of two selected imines were studied by UV-vis and Raman spectroscopy.
