• The model developed in Part I is used to simulate the behavior of notched samples.
• Comparison with experimental data is made.
• The model can distinguish the different damage modes and their location.
The Continuum Damage Mechanics model developed in the first part is used to simulate the behaviour of notched wound composite structures. Two versions (2D and 3D) of the model are compared. It is showed that this damage model is capable of not only accurately simulating the macroscopic behaviour (tension curve) of the notched structures for different stacking sequences but also describing at the local (ply) scale the damage modes. Comparison with experimental data (optical observations, X-ray micrographies, digital image correlation) proves the model can distinguish the different damage modes and their location in the sample.
