Due to the energy crisis and global warming issues, the development of clean alternative energy is in urgent demand. Biohydrogen produced from cellulosic feedstock is a promising candidate as a clean energy carrier to meet the future needs. This article produced biohydrogen from various cellulosic materials via one-step process. The feedstocks applied included glucose, cellobiose, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), Whatman No. 2 filter paper, lignin, xylan, and two microalgae samples. Enriched inoculum was applied for biohydrogen tests. The present bacterial consortium can produce biohydrogen via one-step process. Dilution-to-extinction approach was adopted to identify the functional consortium for simultaneous hydrolysis and fermentation of filter papers.
