• Flexible N-donor ligand could slightly tune the final structural features.
• Two new Mn(II) compounds have been synthesized based on H2oba and dpb ligands.
• Compounds 1 and 2 exhibit diverse architectures (2D and 1D) and topological networks.
• There exist antiferromagnetic interactions in 1 and 2.
Two new metal–organic polymers (MOPs): [Mn2(Hoba)44H2O]n (1), [Mn2(dpb)2(oba)2H2O]n (2), (H2oba = 4,4′-oxybis(benzoic acid), dpb = 1,4-bis(pyridin-3-ylmethoxy)benzene), have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 exhibits a two-dimensional (2D) wave layer structure with 4462 topology which containing a meso-helical chain. Compound 2 features a 1D bicyclo-chain with (43)2(46.65.83.10) topology built up from linear 3-connected oba2−, 2-connected dpb and 6-connected secondary building units (SBUs) [Mn2(COO)4H2O]. Their structures are further characterized by elemental analysis (EA), infrared spectrum (IR), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and thermogravimetric analyses (TG), moreover, temperature-dependent magnetism susceptibility measurements show antiferromagnetic characters for compounds 1 and 2.
