Endiol ligand formation from 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde on a Mo(IV) centre. The X-ray crystal structure and properties of the Mo(IV) binuclear complex

► We report an unexpected reaction of 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde on Mo(IV) centre. ► The formation of coordinated 1,2-bis(2-pyridyl)ethene-1,2-diol is described. ► The X-ray single crystal structure and physicochemical features of novel binuclear complex of Mo(IV) is presented. ► The IR, NMR, UV-VIS spectra and cyclic voltammetry measurements are discussed and compared with other Mo(IV) complexes.
