Preparation of the novel XC(O)SeX species (XÂ =Â Cl, Br) through matrix photochemical reactions of OCSe with Cl2 and Br2 at cryogenic temperatures

The photochemical reactions between OCSe and Cl2 or Br2 isolated in solid argon at cryogenic temperatures were studied by FTIR spectroscopy. The OCSe⋯Cl2, OCSe⋯Br2 and SeCO⋯Br2 molecular complexes were identified. The hitherto unknown syn- and anti-ClC(O)SeCl and syn-BrC(O)SeBr molecules were formed by UV-Vis irradiation of the matrix.
