• The first amido-bridged bimetallic Cu(II)–Mn(III) complex based on the homo-ligand strategy.
• A dinuclear complex [Mn(L)(H2O)]2·6H2O (1) was obtained as a side product.
• Complex 1 exhibits intermetallic ferromagnetic coupling, while complex 2 shows antiferromagnetic interaction.
Two new amido-bridged complexes, dimeric [MnIII(L)(H2O)]2·6H2O (1), and two-dimensional (2D) [K(MeOH)2MnIIICuII(L)2] (2) (H3L = 1-(2-hydroxybenzamido)-2-((2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)amino)ethane) have been prepared and characterized by X-ray single-crystal structure analysis and magnetic measurements. Structural analysis shows that complex 1 is a phenoxo-bridged Mn(III) dimer, and complex 2 possesses 1D chains of amido-bridged alternate [Mn(L)] and [Cu(L)]− units, which are further linked by K+ ions giving rise to a 2D layered structure. Magnetic studies reveal that complex 1 exhibits intermetallic ferromagnetic coupling, while complex 2 shows antiferromagnetic interaction between Cu(II) and high-spin Mn(III). The χmT ∼ T curves of complexes 1–2 have been well fitted based on dinuclear models.
Assembly of K[Cu(L)] and [Mn(L)] gives rise to a two-dimensional amido-bridged bimetallic complex. Antiferromagnetic coupling is present between adjacent Mn(III) and Cu(II) ions.Figure optionsDownload as PowerPoint slide
