The synthesis and characterization of mixed ligand Ru(II) complexes with dipyrido(2,3-a:3′,2′-j)phenazine (dpop′) and 2,3,5,6-tetra(2-pyridyl)-pyrazine (tppz)

Mixed ligand mono and bimetallic ruthenium(II) complexes with N-heterocyclic tridentate ligands were prepared and studied. The bimetallic complex demonstrates that even with competitive π∗ withdrawing ligands such as dpop', the bridging ligand tppz π∗ orbitals are still stabilized sufficiently upon coordination that they are lower in energy than the peripheral ligand π∗ orbitals, and could serve as an energy transfer bridge to remote fragments.
