Reactions of 1-amino-n′-ferrocenemethylcarboxylate with electrophiles: A combined synthetic, electrochemical, and theoretical study

N-alkylation of the redox-active amino acid 1,n′-H2N-Fc-COOCH3 is reported. These reactions result in large changes of the redox properties of the central ferrocene group, which are rationalized by MO calculations.
