Mercury(II)-methylene blue interactions: Complexation and metallate formation

The reaction of methylene blue (MB) chloride dihydrate with HgCl2 has yielded a novel complex as one of the products in which MB cation and chloride ions are coordinated to Hg(II). Mercury(I) fluoride and other mercury(II) halides give rise to mercurate(II) salts with MB derivatives.
