Hydrothermal syntheses, crystal structures and luminescence properties of three new metal diphosphonates with layered structure

► Three Cd(II) and Sn(II) diphosphonates with layered structures have been synthesized. ► Compound 1 is the first examples of cadmium phosphonates incorporating fluoride ions. ► Compound 3 is the first tin phosphonates assembled from aminodiphosphonic acids. ► Compounds 1 and 2 exhibit the blue-light luminescence emission at room temperature.
