The new lead(II) nitrate coordination polymer from ligand 2,7-bis(2-pyridyl)-3,6-diaza-2,6-octadiene (2-bpdhe), [Pb(NO3)2(2-bpdhe)]n (1) was synthesized. The compound 1 was characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analyses and X-ray crystallography. The structure of 1 may be considered coordination polymer of lead(II) consisting of metallocyclic chains formed by bridging 2-bpdhe ligands, making two-dimensional array of Pb(NO3)2 and 2-bpdhe, respectively. Pure phase PbO nano-particles were obtained by thermolyses of compound 1 in oleic acid as surfactant at 180 and 200 °C under air atmosphere. The PbO nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
