Dinuclear platinum complexes with designer thiolate ligands from the monoalkylation of [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4]

Alkylation reactions of [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4] with alkyl halides R-X bearing a range of ancillary functional groups R gave dinuclear sulfide-thiolate complexes [Pt2(μ-S)(μ-SR)(PPh3)4]+ containing functionalised thiolate ligands, five of which were crystallographically characterised.
