[(BINAP)Re(O)Cl3] as an efficient catalyst for olefination of chiral α-substituted aliphatic aldehydes

The chiral Re-BINAP complex 1 is an efficient catalyst for olefination of functionalized aldehydes in the presence of EDA and TPP. Mechanistic experiments suggest the reaction to proceed via in-situ formation of a Wittig-ylide.
