Flame synthesis of hybrid nanowires with carbon shells and tungsten-oxide cores

► Innovative single-step process for the synthesis of hybrid nanowires. ► The synthesis of the hybrid nanostructures is performed in a combustion reactor. ► The lattice spacing of the core is ∼0.38 nm matching the (0 0 2) plane of monoclinic WO3. ► The surrounding carbon shells have a planar layered distance of ∼0.34 nm. ► The thickness of the carbon layer can be controlled by the synthesis process.
