Manganite γ-MnOOH nanobelts were successfully synthesized by the hydrothermal process using KMnO4 as oxidant and l-cysteine as reducing agent. The effects of the reaction time and hydrothermal temperature on the preparation of this material have been studied. The manganite nanoparticles were thoroughly characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermal analyses (TGA–DTA). The electrochemical properties of the product were investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The material exhibits stable and rectangular shaped cycles, implying a good reversibility of the diffusion process of lithium ion Li+ inside the modified electrode.
