Pulsed repetition rate nanosecond laser heating and ablation of the tokamak graphite tile deposited layers

► We study laser heating and ablation of a graphite tile with a deposited carbon layer. ► The experimental results are simulated with an analytical model of laser heating. ► The assessment of the carbon layer parameters is made from the theoretical fitting. ► It is shown that the ablation mechanisms for graphite and the layer are different.
