Impact response of aluminum foam core sandwich structures

► We compare low velocity impact response of Al foam blocks with different face sheets. ► Energy absorbing capacity of the Al foam blocks increases with increasing thickness. ► Amount of impact energy and initiation failure mode depend on the face sheet used. ► Aluminum foam blocks with 0.5 mm SS face sheet performs the best among all.
