• FeTiO3 nanostructures were synthesized by a hydrothermal method.
• FeTiO3 nanocrystal shows improved photocatalytic property.
• The photocatalytic reactivity is attributed to its high-activity (012) plane.

FeTiO3 nanostructures with different morphologies such as nanodisc, nanocube and nanooctahedron have been successfully prepared through a facile hydrothermal method, employing titanate nanowires precursor as Ti source, FeCl2·4H2O as Fe source and thiourea as surfactant. The FeTiO3 nanocrystals exposing specific surfaces show photocatalytic properties for photocatalytic degradation of RhB under visible irradiation. The results demonstrated that FeTiO3 nanocubic exhibited optimized photocatalytic reactivity to degrade RhB attributed to its (012) facets-exposed high-activity plane. The electrochemical experiments also confirmed the enhanced catalytic reactivity of the (012) plane of the FeTiO3 nanocubic structures.

In this manuscript, we prepared different kinds of FeTiO3 nanostructures such as nanodisc, nanocube and nanooctahedron by a facile hydrothermal method for the first time. The specific surfaces effect of FeTiO3 nanocrystals confirm that FeTiO3 nanocubic shows optimized photocatalytic reactivity to degrade RhB attributed to its high-activity (012) plane. Further, the electrochemical experiments also confirmed the (012) plane of cubic shows enhanced catalytic reactivity.Figure optionsDownload as PowerPoint slide
