The effect of In for Sn and Gd for Sm substitution on magnetic properties of the SmPdSn1−xInx and GdxSm1−xPdIn compounds has been studied. The behaviour of the first series differs markedly from the second one. One of the most visible difference in the magnetic properties is the fact, that in the SmPdSn1−xInx series the so called non-Curie–Weiss (NCW) behaviour is observed whereas in the case of the gadolinium series the Curie–Weiss law (CW) is fulfilled. The values of magnetic phase transition temperatures, magnetic moment obtained at 7 T and magnetocaloric effect are much higher for Gd-rich compounds.
